Virginia roads to test out automation

A new pair of test beds are being developed in Virginia to help try out these technologies and find new uses for the increasingly interconnected computer systems operating on roadways.
The two test beds, one located in the northern section of the state and the other in the southwestern corner, were created by the Connected Vehicle/Infrastructure University Transportation Center with funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The project is a joint effort coming out of the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, the University of Virginia Center for Transportation Studies and Morgan State University.
