Truck safety group asks Biden to mandate crash avoidance tech on big rigs

A safety group representing the families of truck crash victims has penned a letter to Joe Biden calling for action to address “the alarming rise in truck crash deaths and injuries over the past 10 years.”

On December 22, the “Truck Safety Coalition” group sent a letter to Biden asking for urgent action on truck safety issues that they say were ignored during the last four years of the Trump administration. Specifically, the group asks for Biden to mandate that crash avoidance technologies like automatic braking become standard equipment on new trucks.

The group also calls for Biden to “appoint leaders to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), who are committed to aggressively advancing safety solutions and are free of motor carrier industry ties and corporate influence.”
