The rate of fatal crashes linked to motorists running red lights is falling across the country, dropping faster in cities with red-light cameras, a study released Tuesday found.
“Our analysis shows that red-light cameras are making intersections safer,” said Anne McCartt, senior vice president for research at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
A state House leader, however, is putting the brakes on approving installation of the cameras across Pennsylvania until data from a related pilot program in Philadelphia can be analyzed.
