Smart grid pioneer Silver Spring Networks (SSN) is continuing its march to position itself as a central player in the Internet of Things. Having proved the capabilities of its communications network in the smart grid, it is now expanding into adjacent sectors, most notably smart street lighting.
SSN is not alone in its ambitions. General Electric, Itron, and other smart grid stalwarts have programs underway to co-exist with smart street lights. But SSN has taken the step of buying a French company with expertise in software to control and manage street light networks. (See Page 2 for details).
