Smart cars to be put to test in Ann Arbor

The, University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute will conduct the research project in Ann Arbor where nearly 3,000 cars, trucks and buses equipped with vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication devices will “talk” to each other and highway devices. Most of the test vehicles will be privately owned. NHTSA says vehicle-to-vehicle communications will assist drivers in preventing as many as three-fourths of crashes.
