Robot caravans to cruise across Antarctica

Engineers are building a robot-driven caravan to haul fuel and supplies from the main U.S. base in Antarctica to the South Pole, a futuristic technology that polar officials hope will save time, money and reduce the human footprint here on the frozen continent. The NSF, which sponsors hundreds of scientific projects across Antarctica, is working with robotics researchers from Carnegie Mellon University to develop a prototype vehicle that should be tested later this year.
