An article in the Japan Times recently revealed that Japan has more charging points for electric vehicles than gas stations. They cited numbers provided by Nissan who claim the country has 40,000 charging points and 34,000 gas stations. Some criticised the data as gas stations have multiple pumps capable of handling substantially more vehicles every day. Chargers in private homes were also counted by Nissan, though the Japan Times points out that these may well be shared in the future, akin to Airbnb, as part of the emerging sharing economy. By contrast, the U.S. has approximately 9,000 charging points and 114,500 gas stations.
