President Joe Biden’s $2 trillion American Jobs Plan infrastructure proposal has a lot of elements, and it’s unclear how much of it, if any, will become law. However, it’s nothing if not ambitious and it also highlights how much of the conversation around smart cities and infrastructure may have shifted because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Civic leaders and IT innovators responsible for smart city programs, have told StateTech that they view their efforts to use technology to modernize citizen services through an equity lens.
As state and local governments, and especially cities, think about how the American Jobs Plan might impact them if it becomes a reality — and as officials contemplate how to use an influx of billions of dollars in already-appropriated federal funding — equity may be a key focus.
