Gripe if you want, but red light cameras save lives

Until recently, Philadelphia was the only Pennsylvania city authorized to run a red-light camera safety program. But a new law takes effect this autumn, allowing other municipalities, including several in Bucks County, to take advantage of technology to reduce traffic collisions…
At the city’s 10 intersections with cameras in place for at least three years, the longest of any Philadelphia locations, right-angle collisions have decreased 32 percent, according to the Pennsylvania State Transportation Advisory Commission. Ask any of our paramedics and they’ll tell you that reducing this type of crash is critical because these T-bone crashes cause the most severe injuries.
The same evaluation found total crashes at those 10 intersections decreased by 24 percent.
