GM completes Cruise Automation acquisition

General Motors has closed on a reported $1 billion acquisition of Cruise Automation, a San Francisco tech firm with about 40 employees, which will develop self-driving vehicle software for GM. The company also is licensed to test driverless cars in California. “The expertise and the work that’s already been done by Cruise, we saw as something that would really accelerate our ability to lead from an autonomous perspective,” said GM’s Mary Barra.
