Exxon Mobil Corp. has announced it will enlarge a research initiative partnership with FuelCell Energy Inc., with the idea of lowering expenses related to carbon emissions from power plants, according toReuters. The two companies are looking to replace exhaust scrubbers with fuel cells to entrap carbon emissions from natural gas-fired plants as well as make electricity.
This is just one of a few alternative energy programs Exxon has been working on recently. Exxon and FuelCell Energy wouldn’t give financial data about the collaborative effort. However, Exxon has said that the projects are not tied to public opposition to climate change disclosures. Instead the company said it was related to its research into alternative fuels and carbon requisitioning.
