Electric vehicle sales rise as registrations jump 57% through September

While Tesla still dominates the market with nearly 350,000 registrations through September, traditional automakers and new startups accounted for 183,750 registrations, a 71% increase for non-Tesla vehicles.

Automakers have announced $24 billion in new electric vehicle and battery manufacturing facilities through the first five months of this year, according to the Center for Automotive Research. Through 2026, nearly 150 new plug-in electric vehicles will be on the market in the U.S. in addition to those released this year, according to data compiled by Automotive News.

But as the market for plug-in vehicles continues to grow, sales of hybrid vehicles sank 16% in the third quarter, according to Kelley Blue Book.
