According to Wang Binggang, chief consultant to the State 863 Energy-saving & New Energy Vehicle Project, the latest set of rules clarify the definition of electric vehicles, which include series hybrid vehicles, but exclude micro and mild hybrid ones. The companies that are awarded the manufacturing license will only be permitted to produce electric vehicles under their own brand, and will not be allowed to manufacture gasoline powered automobiles, the newspaper said. The competition among interested applicants is heating up, with several auto component makers striving to meet the technical requirements stipulated in the rules, the newspaper said. Several internet companies that have announced plans to move into auto-related businesses such as the Internet of Cars and electric vehicles, are teaming up with auto makers to meet the regulatory requirements.
