The Wyoming Department of Transportation is planning on installing the Connected Vehicles Pilot Program Technology in new vehicles for this winter.
They have already been working on developing this technology for the past three years. The vehicles communicate through radio signals and satellite signals which provides a three hundred yard radius in which they can be connected.
The data collected by these vehicles is then shared with the WYDOT Transportation Management Center, where it will be distributed to the public through the Wyoming 511 app and the WYDOT road information website.
The goal for WYDOT is always safety, and they are hoping that the faster communication between vehicles will allow people to make more informed decisions while driving and to help give alerts when the snow is too thick to see the road.
