Argo AI opens international headquarters

Pittsburgh-based Argo AI officially opened its European headquarters in Munich, according to a news release.

The announcement comes with the closing of its $2.6 billion investment from Volkswagen announced in July 2019.

Argo AI’s partnership with VW includes contributions from the automaker’s Munich-based Autonomous Intelligent Driving team. The expansion brings Argo AI to more than 1,000 employees globally.

“This news not only solidifies our well-capitalized position, but differentiates us as the only self-driving technology platform company with partnerships and commercial agreements for deployment across the U.S. and Europe,” Argo AI CEO Bryan Salesky wrote in an announcement.

The opening of Argo Munich marks the company’s fifth engineering center, along with existing centers in Pittsburgh, Detroit, Palo Alto and Cranbury, New Jersey. Argo AI also operates AV testing fleets in Miami, Austin and Washington, D.C.
