When Uber Advanced Technologies Group found its cars parked and garages shuttered in response to the statewide shutdowns due to Covid-19, the company did not resort to idle hands.
Instead it took advantage of the time it had, transitioning its workforce to be productive remotely.
Noah Zych, chief of staff at Uber Advanced Technologies Group, said Uber was able to transition its ATG workforce to be “almost entirely productive” remotely. Those working in software development were able to connect remotely to the parked Uber vehicles to test how the software would work with the hardware, and Uber also took the downtime to make the transition to a new operating system for its self-driving vehicles, which had been in the works for the last year and a half.
