3D Map Sensors Attached To Street Cleaner in Driverless Car Prep

A new 3D street mapping project is underway in Oxford in order to “pave the way” for driverless vehicles. The BBC reports that sensors have been attached to a street cleaner in the city centre in order to create maps over the next few months.

It adds that the scheme, which is a collaboration between Oxford City Council and Oxford University’s Robotics Institute, is also hoping to collect data on air quality, litter and fly-tipping, parked vehicles, broken streetlights, and heat loss from buildings.
